I've been so busy this summer than an anniversary slipped up on me before I knew it. "Honey from the Rock" is two years old this month! Yes, it's true. We started this daily Bible study in August 2006. It is a distinct pleasure for me to come to you each weekday with "sweet stuff from God's Word" and I hope that we are all stronger and more fit today because of these spiritual vitamins and nutrients we are taking. Let me hear from you today.

Tomorrow we are going to be moving to the 3rd chapter of Colossians. I feel that God has many good things in store for us there. All year long we have been focusing on the Christian life and the first 17 verses of Colossians 3 certainly do that.

Here is a choice morsel, a tidbit for today from Psalm 119. "The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver" (v. 72 NKJV). What if a table was spread before you and on it were two stacks? The first stack was thousands or coins of gold and silver. Forget the coins. Let's make it stacks and stacks of hundred dollar bills. You think of all the bills you need to pay, the extra house payments or car payments you could make, the vacation you could take, the clothes you could buy for your household. Now look at the second stack. It is much smaller. It is an old leather bound book that actually contains 66 books - the Bible, the very Word of God. Reading it can keep you from sinning against God (v. 11). It contains many "wondrous things" (v. 18). It is far better than "worthless things" (v. 37). The choice is yours. Congratulations! You made the right choice. I will see you tomorrow with a brand new "Honey from the Rock - sweet stuff from God's Word!"

Hymn: "Give me the Bible, all my steps enlighten, teach me the danger of these realms below; That lamp of safety o'er the gloom shall brighten, that alight alone the path of peace can show." (Priscilla J. Owens)

I'm sure it's no easy task writing these devotions each day, but they are very welcome visitors each day.

The Word of God, and Christian friends become even more precious each day. Just last night we had dinner with Twylla Jones, Pat & Roy Thomas and Betty Ross. We've all been friends ever since we first came to Carthage 30+ years ago, but in later years we haven't taken the time to get together as much. We talked about how precious our friendships are, and that's because of our common bond - Christian values and Christian fellowship.

Last week my daughter, Rachel, commented to me that I need to be thankful for my family (having 5 good brothers and sisters) and my Christian friends. I didn't need to be reminded of that, as I truly am thankful for them each day. She mentioned that because she and her husband lead their home Bible Study group. The couples in the group are less mature and the situations they deal with are nothing like we've had to deal with. People have a lot of baggage in their lives and she was feeling the burden of needing to tell them a few things about what they need to get out of their lives if they want to be free of some of their problems.

I'm writing too much, but these tidbits each day about living the Christian life are such good reminders.

      Thank you for providing them.
