STANDING SUCCESSFULLY AGAINST SATANIC STRAGEGIES

Yesterday we learned that we must put on the full armor of God. But why? Paul gives us the answer in today's text. "That you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil" (Eph. 6:11b Amplified Version).

Satan is the great deceiver. He deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden and today he deceives entire nations. Divine armor and weapons must be ours in order to successfully stand against Satanic strategies. The devil's devices are "cunning" (Knox). The KJV says, "that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." I once heard a preacher mispronounce "wiles" as "willies." Perhaps he wasn't too far off the mark. The devil can give us the "willies" unless we are willing to put on the full armor of God. Satan throws a lot of stuff our way. That's why we need the "shield of faith" and the "helmet of salvation" in particular. A strong faith and the assurance of salvation will help you "stand your ground against the stratagems of the Devil" (TCNT).

This passage gives us great encouragement. We can successfully stand against Satanic strategies. But first we must be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. And we must be willing to put on the whole armor of God. Then, and only then, are we equipped for spiritual warfare. You got dressed this morning. Good for you. But did you get spiritually dressed as well? Let's make it a good habit to do that each morning!

Hymn: "A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; Our helper He amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe - his craft and pow'r are great, and, armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal" (Martin Luther).
We will continue this hymn tomorrow.
