THE SOURCE OF YOUR STRENGTH

Today we start looking at an important section of Scripture, Eph. 6:10-20. In most Bibles it is captioned "The Armor of God."

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power" (Eph. 6:10
NIV). We are strong only as we are "in the Lord." The TCNT says, "For the future, find strength in your union with the Lord." Are you united with Christ? The Bible says we have been united with Christ in the likeness of His death (Rom. 6:5). This happened when we were "buried with Him in through baptism" (Rom. 6:4). God then grants the gift of His Holy Spirit to all who obey Him in baptism (Acts 2:38; 5:32). The Holy Spirit is our source of strength and power.

This power is a "conquering" power (Conybeare). We gain "mastery" from this power which He supplies (Knox). You can overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil if you are strong in the Lord and draw from the power of His might. Know the source of your strength. Stay in the source of your strength. Live in the source of your strength. "In conclusion, be strong in the Lord - be empowered through your union with Him; draw your strength from Him - that strength which His [boundless] might provides" (Amplified Version).

Hymn: Stand up, stand up for Jesus, Stand in His strength alone; the arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own. Put on the gospel armor; each piece put on with prayer. Where duty calls, or danger, be never wanting there" (George Duffield, Jr.).
