UNDERSTANDING GOD'S WILL

"Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is" (Eph 5:17 NIV).

Two things about today's text. We should not be foolish. The Amplified says, "Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish." So much of life is pure foolishness. Let that not be said of our lives. Thinking and acting like a fool is not a very high ambition or accomplishment! Don't be a dork.

Thought two: We should do our best to understand (firmly grasp) what the will of the Lord is for our life. God does have a will for your life. There is a divine plan. And we can understand that plan, that divine will. That is good news! Sometimes the will of God for us is clearly stated in the Bible. At other times God works through circumstances, situations, and even other people - fellow believers. That's why it is good to seek godly counsel when confronted with a major decision. Ultimately, we must make that decision but in the meantime we can read God's Word, pray, fast, meditate, contemplate the circumstances, survey the situation, and seek the advice of godly friends. I am glad that we serve a God whose will can be known, understood, and followed.

Prayer/Hymn: Shut in with Thee, O Lord, forever, My wayward feet no more to roam; What power from Thee my soul can sever? The center of God's will my home. Sweet will of God, still fold me closer, Till I am wholly lost in Thee" (Mrs. Charles H. Morris).
