FATAL SUNSET

"The sunset must not find you still angry" (Eph. 4:26b Knox Translation).
James Davis translates this verse: "Do not allow the sun to be setting on that which is provoking your anger events." No matter what has caused you to become angry, be sure to lay that anger trigger to rest before you lay down to rest. Otherwise, you may not rest all night!
In None of These Diseases, Drs. S. I. McMillen and David E. Stearn write, "Anger places every cell in your body on red alert. Your stomach churns out acid. Your skin hairs stand upright. Your adrenal glands pour out adrenaline and steroids. Your pupils dilate. Your blood pressure shoots up. Your pulse races. You are ready to run or gun." No wonder God in His wisdom told us lay aside all anger (Col. 3:8; Eph. 4:31).
Cain had a big problem with anger. God saw it and said to him, "Why are you angry?...Sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it" (Gen. 4:5-7). But Cain did not master anger. His anger led him to murder his own brother! That was one fatal sunset. Whatever is churning your anger today, be sure to master it before the sun goes down. Then start practicing the doable art of laying anger aside.
