To be taught by Christ means we will think like Christ. If we think like Christ we will speak and act like Christ. Yesterday we learned that we must put off our old way of life. Before we can put on the new self (v. 24) however, we must start thinking differently. And so Paul says in our text today "that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind" (Eph. 4:23 NASB). This sounds a lot like Romans 12:2, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (NASB).

The Amplified N.T. reads, "And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind - having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude." Boy, do I need that each day. A good time to start is with your waking thoughts. "God, I give this day to You. May I have pure, clear, and refreshing thoughts from You that will fill my mind and help me to walk blameless before You this day." And don't forget to ask your Heavenly Helper, the Holy Spirit, for His divine assistance in being renewed in the spirit of your mind. In fact, Alford's translation says to renew your mind "by the Spirit." Positive thinking is not good enough. We need Powerful thinking  - thinking empowered by the Holy Spirit. "His power can make you what you ought to be."

Hymn: "Would you live for Jesus and be always pure and good? Would you walk with Him within the narrow road? Would you have Him bear your burden, carry all your load? Let Him his way with thee. His power can make you what you ought to be; His blood can cleanse your heart and make you free; His love can fill your soul, and you will see; 'twas best for Him to have His way with thee" (Cyrus S. Nusbaum)
