KEEP YOUR HEART SOFT

"They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts" (Eph. 4:18 NIV).
It is vital that we keep our hearts soft before God. I thank God for every tender heart in the life of a brother or sister in Christ. I am glad that He has given me a sensitive heart. I don't ever want to experience a spiritual "hardening of the heart." That is the way Gentiles live. They have hardened themselves to just about everything. They want no part of God, His dealings with man, His kingdom, His people, or His work.
We can keep our hearts soft before God by meditating on His word, penitence in prayer, singing hymns of praise, seeing God in nature, seeing Christ in the face of a little child or an old man or woman, or just thinking on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely or admirable (Phil. 4:8). A soft heart helps us enjoy a sunrise, sunset, or the stars at night. A soft heart is nurtured by good music, a good book, a tender touch, a deed of kindness. A soft heart will smile at a little child and be patient with a trying person.
Prayer: Lord, keep our hearts soft before You at all times and in all circumstances. Through Christ we pray.
