LOOK OUT FOR OCCULT PRACTICES

It is not pleasant to discuss "the works of the flesh" (Gal. 5:19), but the apostle Paul saw fit to pen these words to believers in the first century and we need these warnings today. Satan would like nothing more than to see his evil work go unchallenged. We will not give him that satisfaction. Eternal life is at stake. "People who do such things will have no share in the Kingdom of God" (v. 21 Goodspeed).
"Idolatry" and "witchcraft" are the next two works of the flesh that Paul mentions in Gal. 5:20 (KJV). Idolatry has been the besetting of nation after nation. Even Israel resorted to worshiping idols. King Solomon fell into this trap as well. Let us not think that because we live in the 21st century that we are exempt from this sin. For what is idolatry? The biblical answer may surprise you. Paul says in Col. 3:5 that covetousness is idolatry. That which you covet becomes your idol. You may have an idol sitting in your house or parked in your garage. Or in your neighbor's house.
"Witchcraft" is also translated "sorcery." Our impressionable children and grandchildren are subjected to sorcery on a "milder" scale in the form of wildly popular books and box-office movies. My good friend Ben Alexander is a former spiritualist medium. He is now founder and director of Exposing Satan's Power Ministries www.espministries.com. He sounds a needed warning against witchcraft and sorcery in his lectures, books, and tracts. Ben cites over 100 Scriptures dealing with the occult, such as: Exodus 7:11 & 22:18, Deut. 18:10, 1 Sam. 15:23, 2 Chron. 33:6, 2 Kings 9:22, Micah 5:12, Nahum 3:4, Isa. 47:9,12 & 57:3, Dan. 2:2, Acts 8:9,11, Gal. 5:20, and Rev. 9:21 & 18:23. Ben says, "God would not forbid is to deal with something that does not exist. Spiritualism and all its practices must be rejected, for it is totally against God's will for His people."
Prayer: Holy Father, create in us a holy distaste for all that opposes Your will, Your Word, and Your way. Through Christ we pray.
