THE DAILY BATTLE

"For the desire of the Flesh fights against the Spirit, and the desire of the Spirit fights against the Flesh; and this variance tends to hinder you from doing what you wish to do" (Galatians 5:17 Conybeare).
Every day there is a battle going on inside your heart and mind. We will be in the flesh until Jesus comes and gives us a new body. But we also have the Spirit of God living in us. There is great opposition between the flesh and the Spirit. There is conflict in our soul. This is why we sometimes find ourselves doing things we don't want to do or not doing some things we want to do. Sunday morning rolls around. The flesh says, "Stay in bed. Get some rest. You've worked hard. You deserve it." But the Spirit says, "This is the day the Lord has made. I was glad when they said unto me, "Come, let us go to the house of the Lord.'" Who will win the fight? Whoever you surrender to.
The daily battle, therefore, is between your flesh and God's Spirit. "For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace" (Romans 8:6 NASB). The battle, I think, is won or lost in the mind. That's why the Bible tells us, "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on the earth" (Col. 3:2 NASB). Paul puts it this way: "For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace" (Romans 8:6 NKJV). Filling your mind with the things of the Spirit will help you in this battle. Filling your mind with the things of the flesh spells defeat, discouragement, and disillusionment. Do you remember when you used to pull into a service station and the attendant would come running out to your car and ask, "Fill 'er up?" That question is still being asked. "Fill 'er up?" Fill your mind with the things of the Spirit and your ride will be a lot smoother!
Prayer: Father, help us this day to set our minds on things above, not on things of this earth. Thank You for giving us Your Spirit to help us win the battle. Through Christ we pray.
