THE KEY TO CHRISTIAN BEHAVIOR

"But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts" (Romans 13:14 NKJV).

The key to successfully living the Christian life is found in the first part of this verse - putting on Christ. When Christ is our life, our all, we will not want to make provision for the flesh. We will think twice before we fulfill its lusts and desires. We will crucify the flesh. We will live triumphantly over temptation. We will win the battle.

Job testified, "I put on righteousness, and it clothed me" (Job 29:14). We are "dressed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne." Christ is our righteousness. Each morning when we get up and get dressed we might want to think about putting on the Lord Jesus Christ too. To fail to do so is to leave the house spiritually naked. Back in verse  12 we were told to "put on the armor of light" as well. No soldier would go into battle without his armor; no Christian should enter a day of life without clothing himself or herself with Christ. To put on Christ means to have His mind, think His thoughts, speak as He would speak, act (and react) as He would act, do as He would do.

Hymn/Prayer: "O to be like Thee! Lord, I am coming, now to receive the anointing divine; all that I am and have I am bringing; Lord, from this moment all shall be thine. O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee! Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art; come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness; stamp Thine own image deep on my heart" (T. O. Chisholm).
