"LESSER" SINS?

"Not in dissension and jealousy" (Romans 13:13-d NIV).

Paul has been warning believers about the deeds of darkness, or as we have chosen to call it, "night blight." But now he leaves the sins of sexual immorality, drunkenness and debauchery and turns his attention to the "lesser" sins of dissension and jealousy. Somehow we don't equate these sins with the others, do we?

I once heard a famous revivalist preach from 2 Cor. 7:1, "Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" (NKJV). For nearly an hour he expounded on the sins of the flesh, but time ran out before he could get to any sins of the spirit. The congregation probably needed more teaching on the latter than the former! How tempting it is to blast drunkenness and debauchery but never get around to dealing with  strife, envy, quarreling, bickering, backbiting, dissension, and division. This goes back to verse 10: "Love worketh no ill to his neighbor." Our calling in Christ calls for us to treat one another "Christianly" at all times.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, fill us with Your love that we might love one another with a pure heart, fervently. Through Christ we pray.

Personal: I would like to welcome Yan and Nadya of St. Petersburg, Russia, to our "Honey from the Rock" Bible studies. They are dedicated servants of Christ whom I met several years ago in my only visit to St. Petersburg (the most beautiful city in Russia).

This is very short and to the point, yet, without criticism and condemnation. It is very true about how we, as Christians, find it so easy to see all the so called "Big" sins, but can NOT see the sins we do in judging the "Big" sins. The truth is, there is NO such thing as big and small sins. In the eyes of God, a sin is a sin is a sin. God can NOT look upon ANY sin. And, if you truly listen to what Jesus says, it's the condition of your heart that makes the difference. That is why Christ made it clear that if you don't understand the parable of the "Soil", then you will NOT understand any of the other parables. The question we need to ask ourselves, every day is, what condition is MY heart? Only with a heart filled with, Christ and the Spirit, can we truly, Know and do, what is right.
