""So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light" (Romans 13:12-b NIV).

Deeds of darkness will always drag you down. Why is it that nearly every shooter who enters a school, church, or mall to do his evil work is dressed in dark clothing? Have you noticed that? The kingdom of darkness is under the reign of its evil commander, Satan. People choose darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil (John 3:19).

But we have been called out of darkness to live in God's marvelous light (1 Pet. 2:9). God is light and in Him is do darkness at all (1 John 1:5). Therefore, Paul says, "cast off the works of darkness" and "put on the armor of light" (NKJV). This does not mean we lay aside the deeds of darkness for awhile, only to pick them back up again. When I take the garbage out on Monday nights I do not go looking for it again the next day! I want to be rid of the filthy stuff! And notice how Paul describes our Christian armor - "the armor of light." The full armor of God (Eph. 6:11,13) is described in terms of light. You are indeed "a knight in shining armor" riding into battle for the Lord!

Hymn: "Soldiers of Christ, arise, And put your armor on, Strong in the strength which God supplies through His eternal Son; Strong in the Lord of hosts, and in His mighty power, Who in the strength of Jesus trusts is more than conqueror" (Charles Wesley).
