NEARLY GONE, ALMOST HERE

"The night is nearly over; the day is almost here" (Romans 13:12-a NIV).
In the beginning, God called the light Day, and the darkness Night (Gen. 1:5). Throughout Scripture the contrast is stark. Night/darkness is usually symbolic of evil and sin. Day/light in normally symbolic of goodness and righteousness. We are to be children of the Light, not patrons of the Night.
The Message reads, "We cannot afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours..." Those who live in sin live in perpetual darkness - and are in peril of being cast into outer darkness some day. Not long ago I was on a Saturday night flight that was scheduled to land late. The two flight attendants - one a single man and the other a married woman - were talking excitedly about which night club stayed open the latest and all the fun they were going to have partying and drinking until 2 AM. This is how some people choose to live. In spite of crawling into bed at 3 AM that Sunday morning, I still got up a few hours later and went to church, and was glad to be in house of the Lord (Psa. 100:2).
Hymn: "In the land of song, in the glory throng, where there never comes a night, With my Lord once slain I shall ever reign in the glory land of light." (W. C. Poole)
