HARM OR HARMONY?

"Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law" (Romans 13: 10 NIV).
Why did Cain harm his brother? Because he did not love him. Why did Joseph's brothers do harm to him? Because they did not love him. Why do people harm and hurt others - even family members? Because they do not love them. Why do some people in the church say and write and do harmful things against their brothers and sisters in Christ? Because they do not love them.
True love doesn't intentionally, knowingly, willfully and maliciously wrong or harm others. In the great love chapter of the Bible (1 Cor. 13), Paul writes: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails" (1 Cor. 13:4-8a). The lack of love always brings harm, but the presence of love will always bring harmony.
(Today is March 10, my wife's birthday. May I say that she models the love of Christ more than anyone I have ever known. I am blessed beyond measure to have her as my loving wife and the loving mother of our children.)
Prayer: Father of Mercies, grant us Your love that we might never bring harm but only harmony to our homes, neighborhoods, and Your Church. Through Christ we pray.
