"PREFERRED CUSTOMERS"

"In honor giving preference to one another" (Romans 12:10b NKJV).
Who doesn't appreciate shopping where you are honored as a "preferred customer"? We all like that special treatment. It makes us feel good. But we are not customers in the kingdom of God. We are fellow servants, fellow laborers. And Scripture admonishes us to "Honor one another above yourselves" (NIV).
Speaking of stores, ever start to enter a store about the same time as someone else? What happens? "You go first." "No, you go first." After three or four attempts, someone finally will hold the door open for the other to go in. This is preferring one another. It should never be "me first" in the church. We should never insist on having our way or getting our way. Rather, think of others. Yield to others. Give preference to one another. I believe that many church squabbles would end if we would take today's text to heart. The first part of Romans 12:10 holds the key: "Be devoted to one another in love" (NIV). Because I love you I will say, "You first."
Prayer: Dear Father, help me this day to learn to think of others more than myself. Through Christ I pray.
