DO YOU LOVE ME?

One of the silliest songs to come out of the 60s was "Do you love me, now that I can dance?" The poor saps singing the song thought they would only be loved if they learned how to do the Mashed Potato and The Twist! What a bunch of dolts! Still, I must admit, I can't get that crazy tune out of my head!
Our text today says, "Be affectionate in your love for the brotherhood" (Romans 12:10a, Goodspeed). The NAS says, "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love." Sometimes its not easy to love those in the brotherhood. We kind of "like" them but we really don't "love" them. But these are brothers and sisters for whom Christ died. That makes the difference, doesn't it? Shouldn't it? God does not tell us to "tolerate" the brotherhood or "just try to get along" with your brothers and sisters in the Lord. Affection and devotion are what we give those to whom we have pledged ourselves for life, i.e., our spouse. We owe the same to our brethren in the church - remembering that it is not OUR church but HIS church, HIS body.
Hymn: Let our words be sweetly spoken, let kind thoughts be greatly stirred; Show our love to one another with abundance of kind words. "Love one another," thus said the Savior; Children, obey the Father's blest command. (Betty Bender)
