THE HORROR!

"Regard evil with horror" (Rom. 12:9b The New Testament in Modern Speech, Weymouth).
Some people are turned on by horror novels or movies. Not me. I abhor horror. The adventures of Sherlock Holmes and his trusty companion Dr. Watson are enough for me! Today's text says "Abhor what is evil" (ESV). Goodspeed's translation says "Hate what is wrong." My friend Ben Alexander, a former medium, says too many people have an "unholy fascination" with evil. I think Ben is right. Evil should be shunned, not embraced.
Every form of evil in this world is an abomination to God. A prophet said of God, "You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on wickedness" (Habakkuk 1:13 NKJV). God sees it all, make no mistake about it, but He takes no pleasure in evil. He loathes it, hates it, despises it, and abhors it. It stands to reason, then, that a godly man or woman will do the same. "Regard evil with horror." "Abhor what is evil." We live in an evil, fallen world but God calls us to live on a higher plane. We have the mind of Christ. The Christly mind will regard evil with horror.
Hymn/Prayer: "More purity give me, more strength to o'er-come, more freedom from earth stains, more longings for Home; more fit for the kingdom, more useful I'd be, more blessed and holy, more, Savior, like Thee." (Philip P. Bliss)
