"I don't have a gift," someone once said to me. He seemed to be saying that God had left him out when He distributed His gifts. He was declaring that he had no talents to serve the God who made him.

Paul tells us, "We have different gifts, according to the grace given us" (Romans 12:6a NIV). He does not say that some have gifts and others do not. He says these gifts are by the grace of God. He then mentions eight different gifts that God has given to those who are a part of the one body of Christ. Which one seems to be your gift? (Read them in Romans 12:6-8).

My wife has the gift of mercy. I think my gift is teaching (I am more of a "teaching preacher" than a "preaching preacher.") My friend Dick has the gift of leadership and wants to pass it on. My friend Jerry has the gift of giving and he blesses so many people with his generosity. Today I noticed how Paul elaborates on some of the gifts: if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is in showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully." In other words, whatever your gift - exercise it the very best you can!

Hymn: Hear ye the Master's call, "Give Me thy best!" For be it great or small, that is His test. Do then the best you can, not for reward, not for the praise of man, but for the Lord. Every work for Jesus will be blest, but He asks from everyone his best. Our talents may be few, these may be small, but unto Him is due our best, our all (S. C. Kirk).

I'm not sure this list in Romans was meant to be exhaustive, but I appreciate you bringing it up. I'm going to have to think about the topic a bit.
