TRANSFORMATION THROUGH THINKING

"...be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." (Romans 12:2).
One of the best books I've read in recent years is "Renovation of the Heart" by Dallas Willard (NavPress, 2002). Willard has two chapters in his book on "Transforming the Mind." Everything is won or lost in the mind. "As we first turned away from God in our thoughts, so it is in our thoughts that the first movements toward the renovation on the heart occur."
Every deed was once a thought. Spiritual reformation begins the day we start thinking differently about God, self, sin, and salvation. If God is in our thoughts, that is a good start. A. W. Tozer said, "It is my opinion that the Christian conception of God...is so decadent as to be utterly beneath the dignity of the Most High God and actually to constitute for professed believers something amounting to a moral calamity." Think of God as God describes Himself in Scripture. You cannot become godly if you do not ingest God! Think on these things. Renew your mind. Be filled with the fullness of God (Eph. 3:17-19). You are what you think about all day long. Determine that you will center your thinking on the One who gave you your mind and the ability to think. Think well!
Prayer: Father, do help us this day to focus on You and what You have said about Yourself in Your Word so that we might "be transformed by the renewing of our mind." This we pray in Jesus' name.
