Christians around the world are getting ready to celebrate the birth of Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, the Only Begotten Son of God, the Savior of the World. But why did Jesus come to earth. What was His mission? Actually, His mission is manifold. Nobody ever "multi-tasked" like our Lord! Here follow some of the "mission statements" of Jesus Christ [taken from my "Celebrating 33 Enduring Qualities of Jesus of Nazareth"].

1. To do God's will (John 6:38)
2. To destroy the works of Satan (Heb 2:14; 1 John 3:8)
3. To preach the good news of the Kingdom (Luke 4:43)
4. To testify to the truth (John 18:37)
5. To bring fire on the earth (Luke 12:49)
6. To call sinners to repentance (Matt 9:13)
7. To seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10; 1 Tim 1:15)
8. To save the world (John 3:17; 12:47)
9. To fulfill the Law and the Prophets (Matt 5:17)
10. To complete revelation (Heb 1:1-2)
11. To give abundant life (John 10:10, 28)
12. To build His church (Matt 16:18)
13. To serve others (Matt 20:28)
14. To give His life as a ransom (Matt 20:28)
15. For judgment (John 9:39)
16. To be the light (John 12:46)

Here are 16 candles to place on the birthday cake of our Lord!

Hymn: Why did my Savior come to earth, And to the humble go? Why did He choose a lowly birth? Because He loved me so!/Why did He drink the bitter cup of sorrow, pain and woe? Why on the cross be lifted up? Because He loved me so!/Till Jesus comes I'll sing His praise, And then to glory go. And reign with Him through endless days, Because He loved me so! (J. G. Dailey)
