YET MORE NAMES/TITLES OF CHRIST

"Inspiration belabors itself" is how my old Bible College professor put it. When the Bible gives us so many (some say 700) names and titles of Jesus the Christ, that is a case of "inspiration belaboring itself." So, are you ready for some more? Here are just a few that start with "R" and "S."

Job called Him the Redeemer (Job 19:25). He is the Righteous Branch (Jer 23:5), Righteous Judge (2 Tim 4:8) and Righteous Servant (Isa 53:11). Our Lord is a Rock of Offense (Rom 9:33), Root of David (Rev 22:16), and the Rose of Sharon (S of S 2:1). Christ is called the Savior of the World (1 John 4:14), Scepter our of Israel (Num 24:17), Seed of Abraham (Gal 3:16), Son of God and Son of Man (Luke 1:35; Acts 7:56), Son of the Living God (Matt 16:16), Star out of Jacob (Num 24:17), Stone cut out of the mountain (Dan 2:45), Sun of Righteousness (Mal 4:2), and the Sure Foundation (Isa 28:16).

My Bible College teacher (Donald G. Hunt) also said the Old Testament prophecies of Jesus were like "prophetic stars shining in the darkness of the Old Testament sky." Look up at the sky tonight and imagine that all those stars represent a name or title of our Lord. It will be an "enlightening" experience! Truly, Jesus Christ is the "star of the show" and completely outshines all other names and titles that will some day be forgotten.

Hymn: O holy night! the stars are brightly shining, It is the night of the dear Savior's birth; Long lay the world in sin and error pining, Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn; Fall on your knees, O, hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born! O night, O holy night, O night divine" (John S. Dwight)
