"Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord" (Hebrews 12:12 NKJV).

Not only should we pursue with all people, but we should also pursue the life of holiness if we ever expect so see God. God is holy and requires us to be holy as well: "Be holy, even as I am holy" (1 Peter 1:16). A holy heaven is reserved for a holy people. Holiness is something to be pursued - earnestly sought after. Are you in relentless pursuit of holiness?

I really think we don't think about this enough. At least I don't. I know full well that holiness is not self-manufactured. Like righteousness, it is imputed or imparted. We can be partakers of the divine nature, in fact, we are told we can (1 Peter 1:4). And a few verses before today's text we are reminded that God's discipline (chastening) happens so "that we may be partakers of His holiness" (Hebrews 12:10). God has given us the indwelling gift of His Holy Spirit to help us be a holy people. With His help we can be the holy people God wants us to be. Some day we shall see Him in all His holiness just as Isaiah did (Isaiah 6). "Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" (2 Cor. 7:1).

Hymn: "More holiness give me, more strivings within, more patience in suffering, more sorrow for sin. More faith in my Savior, more sense of His care, more joy in His service, more purpose in prayer. More purity give me, more strength to o'er-come, more freedom from earth-stains, more longings for home. More fit for the kingdom, more useful I'd be, more blessed and holy, more, Savior, like Thee!" (Philip P. Bliss).
