DON'T FORGET THANKSGIVING!

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:16 NIV).
Here is a great life lesson: don't worry about anything but pray about everything! Worry, anxiety, fretting and stewing do not accomplish one good thing. But look at what praying can do! It can move mountains, change things, even touch the heart of Almighty God.
But often we forget an important part of the prayer equation - thanksgiving. Notice that Paul tells us to present our prayers and petitions and requests to God - "with thanksgiving." I believe the apostle is reminding us that God wants us to ask Him for help and blessing that we need right now, but He also wants us to thank Him for answered prayers in the past. Check your prayer log. Is it "heavy" on asking and "light" on thanking? Thanksgiving time is a good time to recreate a spirit of thanksgiving in our prayer life. No one has ever (to my knowledge) written a poem called "The Night Before Thanksgiving." Maybe some one should. What can you thank God for right now?
Hymn: "Come, ye thankful people, come - raise the song of harvest-home: All is safely gathered in ere the winter storms begin. God, our Maker, doth provide for our wants to be supplied: Come to God's own temple, come - raise the song of harvest-home" (Henry Alford).
