THOUGHTS ON THANKSGIVING

Since Thanksgiving Day is coming up, we are going to dwell on the theme of "thanksgiving" for a few days. (We'll finish up the Book of Hebrews next week.)
An old Jewish proverb says, "If men thanked God for good things, they wouldn't have time to complain about the bad." Maybe we should have one day a year called "Grumble Day," go ahead and get it out of our system; then live 364 days gladly thanking God for all the good things He sends our way!
Blue Letter Bible lists 25 uses of "thanksgiving" in the NIV. One of the best known is Psalm 100:4, "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name." Friends, if we are going to enter into the presence of God we must do so with thanksgiving mingled with praise! Do not start your day with negativity and whining. Do not set foot in your church with ingratitude and a critical spirit in your heart. Rather, make this determination: "I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving" (Psa 69:30). God is glorified by our spirit and acts of thanksgiving. Glorify Him in this manner today! And every day!
Song/Prayer: "We give Thee but Thine own, What-e'er the gift may be: All that we have is Thine alone, a trust, O Lord, from Thee. May we Thy bounties thus as stewards true receive, And gladly as Thou bless-est us, To Thee our first-fruits give" (William H. How).
