THE ONLY WAY TO DIE

Let's face it. You (and I) are going to die some day. So did the great heroes who are in God's Hall of Fame. Listen. "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them from afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth" (Hebrews 11:13 NKJV).

Did you catch that? They all died...but they died in faith. That is the only way to die. You can die a quiet believer or die a raving unbeliever. Faith is the emphasis of this chapter. They all lived "by faith" and achieved many things for God "through faith." Those "without faith" cannot be pleasing to God. So, we live by faith, accomplish things for God through faith, and then, in the end, die "in faith." Indeed, they were faithful unto death (Rev. 2:10). It is the only way to go!

I love the heroes of faith, both named and unnamed in this chapter. They were seeking a heavenly homeland (v. 14). So should we. They believed it was a better country (v. 16). So should we. "Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them." Like Abraham, they "waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God" (v. 10). They looked for that city. They waited for that city. They died in faith and entered that city. So can you!

Song: "I care not today what the morrow may bring, if shadow or sunshine or rain; The Lord I know ruleth o'er everything, and all of my worry is vain. Living by faith in Jesus above, Trusting, confiding in His great love; From all harm safe in His sheltering arm, I'm living by faith and feel no alarm" (James Wells).
