FROM "HELL'S HOLLOW" TO "PLEASANT VALLEY"

I've just returned from a preaching trip to South Dakota where I preached in churches in Watertown and Brookings. While there I learned the story of G. W. Elliott(the G. W. stands for George Washington). He started more than half of the Churches of Christ in South Dakota. Once he held a revival in a place so wicked that it was known as "Hell's Hollow." But many were transformed by the convicting power of the Word of God as preached by Brother G. W. So much so that "Hell's Hollow" changed its name to "Pleasant Valley."
Such is the change that takes place when Christ comes into a person's heart. "What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought, since Jesus came into my heart!" The Bible says, "Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come" (2 Cor. 5:17 NAS). I thank God for pioneer preachers like George Washington Elliott who had the boldness to enter Hell's Hollow and preach the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. (BTW, G. W. Elliott was the father of George Mark Elliott, who taught my father at Cincinnati Bible Seminary). And the (preaching) beat goes on!
Prayer: Father, thank You for empowering men like Brother Elliott to share the life-changing message of Christ in places like Hell's Hollow. May his tribe increase. Through Christ we pray.
