YOUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST

"Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession" (Hebrews 4:14 NKJV).
Did you know that you have a high priest? And not just any high priest, either. Jesus the Son of God is our Great High Priest. He is our priest forever after the order of Melchizedek (5:6). Today we have "a great high priest over the house of God" (10:22). If you are a part of the church, the house of God, then you have a Great High Priest.
Your High Priest sympathizes with your weaknesses. That is because He has been tempted in all areas, just as you are, yet has remained without sin. Unlike Aaron, who had to sacrifice for his own sins, Jesus has no need of sacrificing for his own sin. "Once for all", however, He did atone for our sin on the cross. Today, now that He has passed through the heavens to the dwelling place of God, He intercedes for us. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He prayed for Peter by name ("Peter, I have prayed for you.") He prays for you by name ("________, I am praying for you.") And what should our response be? Since we have such a Great High Priest, "let us hod fast our confession."
Song: "Let's be true to Jesus, though a thousand voices from the world may call. 'Twas He who died to save us, and demands our life, our loyalty, our all. Since we'll walk and talk with Him when our life on earth is 'o'er, let us labor now to point some sinner to the open door. Let's be true to Jesus, and we'll reap eternal blessings bye and bye."
