"The LORD will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all who hate you" (Deut. 7:15 NIV).

When I was in Bible College in the 1960s, I read a fascinating book by Dr. S. I. McMillan, "None of These Diseases." It was based on the promise God made to Israel in Exo. 15:26, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."

McMillan's grandson, Dr. David E. Stearn, has recently updated his grandfather's book (Revell, 2000). It still focuses on the devastating effects of failing to heed God's advice. From AIDS to anger, our sins take their toll on our spiritual, emotional, and physical life. God knows what is best for our lives. If we pay attention to His counsel we can spare ourselves a lot of needless grief and suffering.

Hymn: "Would you live for Jesus, and be always pure and good? Would you walk with Him within the narrow road? Would you have Him bear your burden, carry all your load? Let Him have His way with thee. His power can make you what you ought to be; His blood can cleanse your heart and make you free; His love can fill your soul, and you will see 'twas best for Him to have His way with thee" (Cyrus Nusbaum).
