A GOD NOT TO BE TRIFLED WITH

"But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him" (Deut. 7:10 NIV).
In contrast with God's great love for those who love Him and keep His commandments, we find God's severity for those who hate Him - swift and sure destruction. Those who despise His mercy and spurn His love must be prepared to pay the consequences of their stubborn and foolish behavior.
Notice that the retribution is "to their face." Pulpit Commentary notes, "The hater of God should be repaid, so that the man should himself see and feel that He had been smitten of God." Job 34:11 says, "He repays a man for what he has done; he brings upon him what his conduct deserves." An old Jim Croce song says, "You don't tug on Superman's cape; you don't spit into the wind." God is not to be trifled with. He blesses those who love Him but will severely reprimand those who hate Him.
Prayer: Holy Father, we do seek to please and honor You in all we think, say, and do this day. Through Christ we pray.
