"But because the LORD loves you..." (Deut. 7:8a NKJV).

There. God said it. "I love you." Or at least Moses said it. "But because the LORD loves you." Israel was not chosen by God because of their numbers for they were "the least of all peoples" (v. 7). Yet, the least of all peoples received the best of all promises: "I love you."

The promise of love is also found in Deut. 4:37. "And because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their descendants after them; and He brought you out of Egypt with His Presence, with His mighty power." You have been brought "out of Egypt" to. You have been loved too. You are loved too. The saying, "Somebody up there loves me" may be trite but it is true if you are a child of God. And His love is not fickle or fleeting. I love Jeremiah 31:3, "The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: 'Yes; I have loved you with an everlasting love." So long as there is God (and that is forever, friend) you cannot say, "No one loves me." For God loves you with an everlasting love!

Praise: "Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made. Were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade. To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry. Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky" (John Greenleaf Whittier).
