ETERNAL AND UNIVERSAL PRINCIPLES

Before we look at Deut. 7:7, let's review the first six verses we have studied together. Pulpit Commentary suggests there are seven "principles of eternal and universal application" that we can learn from the nation of Israel. I will put them into modern English for you.
1. The value of any nation or people depends upon the degree to which they serve God's purpose and not their own.
2. If a nation (or home or church) is to serve God, it must put away corrupting influences.
3. Loyalty to God will bring the blessings of God.
4. We should value most what God values most (righteousness).
5. When a nation (home or church) is lacking in loyalty to God and truth, it has ensured its own downfall.
6. What Israel was designed to be among the nations is what we are to be in our own nation - a people holy unto the Lord.
7. The day of grace has its limit. God is longsuffering but He will not always forbear.
Prayer: Almighty God, thank You for giving us these eternal and universal principles. May we always be a people holy unto You. Through Christ we pray!
