WHEN MARRIAGE IS BAD

"Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son. For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the LORD will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly" (Deut. 7:3,4 NKJV).
The Bible says that marriage is an honorable affair but here we learn that some marriages can be dishonorable. God warned Israel about intermarrying with people who practiced idolatry. His concern was that those who married idolaters would be turned away from following Him. This has happened in every generation since. The late A. Word once said, "If you marry a child of the devil don't be surprised if you have trouble with your father-in-law."
Solomon is proof that this warning is a valid one. "But King Solomon loved many foreign women...from the nations of whom the LORD had said...'You shall not intermarry with them...they will turn away your hearts after their gods.'...when Solomon was old...his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the LORD his God..." (1 Kings 11:1-4). The "wisest of the wise" was turned away from God by bad choices in marriage. As God's chosen people today, let us make wise choices - and teach our children and grandchildren to make choices in marriage that will be pleasing to the Lord.
