WHAT TO DO WHEN DESPISED

"I am small and despised, Yet I do not forget Your precepts" (Psalm 119:141 NKJV). This stanza plays off the Hebrew letter TSADDE.
Every feel "small and despised?" I have. Sometimes I do. The NIV has "lowly" for small. Someone once said he felt "lower than a snake's belly." That is feeling pretty low! Anyone who is a Bible believing Christian will be despised by those who do not honor God in their life. Jesus was despised by His enemies. We are despised in the eyes of the world.
So what do we do? Sigh and give up? Never! We will remember the precepts of God. They will sustain us and strengthen us to face another day, to fight another battle, to win another prize. "Precepts" are "instructions given to men to direct their conduct." This is part of the God-directed life of which we spoke yesterday. Let us conduct ourselves according to the teachings of Scripture, even when mockers and scorners revile what we believe and practice. "For who hath despised the day of small things?" (Zech. 4:10 KJV).
Prayer: Father, fill us with a hunger for Your Word so that we will not forget Your precepts, even when others despise us. Give us strength and courage for the day and we will be content with that. Through Christ we pray.
