Worldwide Love

"The earth is filled with your love, O LORD; teach me your decrees" (Psalm 119:64 NIV). This 8-line stanza starts with the 8th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, HETH.
What a revelation is found in this verse! The earth is filled with God's love. You would never guess this by watching the evening news. Pulpit Commentary says, "Pessimistic views are opposed to the entire tenor of Scripture." I agree. Some people say the world is full of hatred, killing, and cruelty (and there is much of that), but this passage reminds us of God's worldwide love.
I have seen and experienced this love in my travels around the world. In India I saw Christians caring for the outcasts of society. In Beslan, Russia, I saw believers (who had lost their own children in the terrible school massacre) comforting unbelievers who had also suffered loss. In Zimbabwe I saw Christians sharing what little food they had with others. I have been the recipient of this amazing love. Thank God that "the earth is filled with Your love, O LORD!"
Prayer: Father, in a world that is filled with violence may we be reminded this day that the earth - Your earth - is also filled with Your love. Use us to spread it wherever we go this day. Through Christ we pray.
