When Smeared by Lies

"Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart" (Psalm 119:69 NIV). This stanza starts with TETH, the 9th letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
How do you respond when you find out that someone has smeared you by spreading falsehoods about you, your family, or your work? I don't like it when people lie about me but when they drag my family in or the work of God, that really upsets me! All unrepentant liars will suffer eternal torment (Revelation 21:8).
What should you do when lied about? Here we learn that we should continue to keep God's precepts with all our heart. Lies drive us closer to God, into the very heart of God. God knows our heart. He knows that the accusations are false. He will take care of those who smear others with falsehood and lies. Our first instinct is to defend ourselves, but God is the Great Defender. Our sacred duty is to continue to be true to God and His Word with an undivided heart.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, how good it is to know that we may come closer to You when the arrogant smear us with lives. May we continue to keep Your precepts with all our hearts. Through Christ, Who was lied about like no other, we pray.
