"Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope" (Psalm 119:49 NIV). This stanza of Psalm 119 begins with the 7th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, ZAYIN.

It almost seems that David has received some personal message from God. I am assured that God does keep the promises He makes to us in His Word. This should comfort us. In fact, the writer goes on to say, "My comfort in suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life" (v. 50). How good it is to know that the Word of God is true and that He is always faithful!

God is the writer's source of hope. Because of this, he put his hope in the Word of God! "I have put my hope in your word" (v. 74). "Hope" is Holding On, Praying Expectantly. We cling to the promises of God in hope. He is the great Giver of Hope. If we put our hope in anything, or anyone, else we are bound to be disappointed.

Hymn: "How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in His excellent word! What more can He say than to you He has said, You who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?"
