"Give Me Understanding"

"Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands" (Psalm 119:73 NIV). This stanza begins with YODH, the 10th letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
"Made in the USA." "Made in Japan." "Made in China." That might be said about your car or your clothing. But you were made and formed by the Almighty! (Psalm 139:15) Doesn't that give you a good feeling? You were made by God and made for God. So, how can we know this wonderful and beneficent Creator better?
The created makes a simple request of the Creator: "Give me understanding." Why? "To learn your commands." Without "understanding" God makes no sense, His Word makes no sense, life makes no sense. This is a needed and noble prayer request. Ask God today to give you understanding of His Word. Don't lean unto your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). Christ can open your understanding of Scripture (Luke 24:45) as He did with the two men on the road to Emmaus. The Lord will give you understanding in all things (2 Timothy 2:7). Ask and you shall receive.
Prayer: Gracious Father, give us understanding to learn Your commands. Through Christ we pray.
