Keeping Clean in an Unclean World

"How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word" (Psalm 119:9 NKJV).
This stanza begins with the Hebrew letter Beth. The world has changed considerably since I was a teen-age boy growing up in Iowa. The temptations that I faced then seem mild in comparison with the raw sewage that is out in the open today. But there was still a remedy then that still works today. Focusing on God's Word will keep us from succumbing to the temptations and flirtations of the world.
The key is found in verse 11. This is a verse I memorized years ago in VBS (thank you , all my VBS teachers!). It says, "Your word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." Pulpit Commentary says, "To have God's word of promise laid up in the heart is the only security against being surprised by sin." I know that when my focus is on God and His Word I am strong, but when I let down my guard then I am more susceptible to sin. Friend, how about you? Don't you want to be living clean in an unclean world? It is possible!
Prayer: "Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!...Blessed are You, O LORD! Teach me Your statutes...I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word" (vs. 10,12,15-16).
