"The unfolding of Thy words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple" (Psalm 119:130 NASB.

Today we begin a 22-part series on the longest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 119. This psalm is the most unique chapter in the Word of God. The chapter is an acrostic using the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. There are 22 stanzas, each containing 8 verses. Stanza 1 starts with aleph, the first character in the Hebrew alphabet, Stanza with beth and so on. All but 2 or 3 of the 176 verses talk about the Word of God using 9 different synonyms (law, commandments, precepts, testimonies, judgments, statutes, precepts, promise, ways).

There is more truth revealed (unfolding) about the marvelous Word of God in this chapter than anywhere else in the Bible! And today's text tells us that the unfolding of God's Word brings light to the simple. Isn't that what we are? I sure am! The Welsh preacher George Herbert said, "Bibles laid open, millions of surprises." When we open the Word of God light streams from heaven to our hearts. Prepare for a blessing!

Prayer: Holy God, bless us in this daily study of Your Holy Word! Through Christ, the Living Word, we pray.
