Faithful Unto Death

"Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life" (Revelation 2:10 NIV).
This promise was given to the suffering saints in Smyrna. It was good for them and it is good for us today. To be faithful is to be stedfast, trustworthy, and reliable. Christ wants that in us. Christ called Antipas "My faithful martyr" (Revelation 2:13). He, like Stephen, the first Christian martyr, was faithful - even to the point of death.
Whether your death is peaceful or violent, Jesus wants you to be faithful to the end. Faithful to the Good Confession you made ("I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God"). Faithful to the baptism you experienced where you died to sin and rose to walk in newness of life. Faithful to the Lord you remember each Lord's Day in the Communion. Faithful in the life you now live by faith in the Son of God who gave His life for you.
Prayer: Gracious God, grant to us the power to remain faithful and true to You no matter what may come our way. Through Christ we pray.
