The Greatest Joy

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth" (3 John 4 NKJV).

I have never seen a bumper sticker on a car touting this truth. I have seen them saying, "My child is an honor student at _______ School." But I have never seen one saying, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." Don't you think that would be a good one?

Every parent should want the best for his or her child. We go to great lengths (sometimes too far?) to make sure that they are properly clothed, fed, and educated. But John says the greatest joy of all is to know that they are walking in truth. "Truth" is mentioned five times in 2 John and another five times in 3 John. God's Word is truth (John 17:17). God's Son, Jesus Christ, is truth (John 14:6). Let's put more effort into making sure our children and grandchildren are walking in the truth!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, guide us so that we may guide those You have entrusted into our care to always "walk in truth." Through Christ we pray.
