The Two-stream Christian Life

"...we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints - the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven..." (Col. 1:4-5 NIV).

Several years ago I heard the Honorable Judge Herbert Casteel say that this passage really encapsulates what the Christian life is all about. It is a two-stream life. (1) We have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (2) We have love for all the saints. Faith in Christ is imperative. So is loving all the saints (not just those we like).

But notice where these godly manifestations come from. Our faith (in Christ) and love (for Christians) "spring" from hope - a hope that is "stored up" in heaven for us. Heaven is not for those who choose to live by their wits instead of living by faith in the Son of God. Nor is it for those who refuse to love all their brethren. My hope of Heaven impels me to have faith in Christ and have love for all the saints. How about you? Together, let's live the two-stream Christian life.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the hope stored up for us in Heaven. Now, empower us by Your Spirit to have a great faith in Your Son Jesus Christ and a great love for all of Your sons and daughters. Through Christ we pray.
