Above All Else, The Kingdom!

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Matthew 6:33 NKJV).
Today we start looking at my favorite verses in the New Testament. This verse has been a favorite of mine since August 7, 1967, the night Evelyn and I were married. We adopted this passage to be the touchstone of our marriage and have tried to live up to it ever since the night we said "I do" to each other.
It is easy to seek first everything except the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Sometimes I find myself slipping into seeking my own kingdom and my own righteousness. The powerful passage always brings me back to where I should be. In the context, "all these things" are the basic necessities of life: provision and protection. These are the things the "Gentiles" seek with might and main. Here Christ promises me that if I seek His kingdom and His righteousness first (priority), all these other things (provision and protection) will be granted.
Prayer: Father, forgive us when we act like greedy Gentiles instead of trusting children. Above all else may we seek Your kingdom and Your righteousness! Through Christ we pray.
