Clinging to Worthless Idols

"Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs" (Jonah 2:8 NIV).
This is taken from the Prayer of Jonah, who prayed to God from inside the great fish. It probably took this event for him to realize that the stuff we cling to in life is absolutely worthless. What will it take for you and I to make this admission?
We don't like for prophets to call our stuff "idols" - worse than that, worthless idols. We work hard for our idols, we pay good money for our idols. We cling to them like a bulldog clings to a bone. But the mistake is not just in clinging to what is really worthless (as my college roommate was wont to say, "It'll all burn some day, brother!"). The mistake is in forfeiting the grace that could be theirs! God gives more grace. We could have more grace. We could cling to grace...but we stubbornly (and stupidly) cling to...worthless idols! What are the WI's you need to get rid of today?
Prayer: Dear Lord, idolatry is such a wicked thing! You said that You will have no other gods before You, yet we have set them up and cling to them like they are life itself. Forgive us this evil. Give us the moral courage to divest ourselves of worthless idols. Make us worthy of Your grace we pray in Jesus' name!
