If You Had One Wish

"So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish from right and wrong" (1 Kings 3:9 NIV).
What would you ask of God if He approached you and granted you one wish? I like what Solomon asked for: a discerning (understanding) heart and the ability to distinguish right from wrong. God was so pleased with this request that he also gave him what he did not ask for - riches and honor.
The experience that Solomon had came during a dream (v. 5,15), but you and I do not have to have a dream to ask God for the same things that Solomon asked for. Many "health and wealth" evangelists will tell you to ask for riches and honor and never mention at all what Solomon asked for: discernment and the ability to know the difference between right and wrong, truth and error, good and evil. I believe that God will honor us when we desire an understanding heart and really want to know how to determine what is honorable and dishonorable. "Ask and it shall be given unto you."
Prayer: O Lord our God, we are only little children and hardly know what to do. Please grant to us this day a heart of discernment and the ability to recognize right from wrong. Through Christ we pray.
