"If You Do What Is Right"

"If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it" (Genesis 4:7 NIV).
I recently heard respected Bible teacher Knofel Staton exegete this verse. He brought out something I had not thought of before. He said if Cain was "totally depraved" he could not have done what God asked him to do. God told him that if he did what was right he would be accepted (by God). He told him that even though sin desired to have him, he could master it (if he applied himself).
Cain's problem was anger (v. 6). Do you let anger keep you from doing what you know is right? Is anger crouching at your door today? You must master it! Another friend of mine, James S. Davis, has written at length on the problem of anger. He says it is at the root of every problem in the home, society, and the world! Go to his website at www.focusonthescriptures.com and click on "The Action of Anger." Do what is right and you will be accepted!
Prayer: Father of mercies, grant to us this day the holy desire to do what is right. Instill within us the iron of integrity to really work at mastering the monster of anger that crouches at our door. Through Christ we pray!
