"In Your Lifetime"

"But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things..." (Luke 16:25 NKJV).

What an arresting phrase - "in your lifetime." This could be said of everyone of us who has lived up to this point in life. What have we done with our lifetime? Have we had the time of our life at the expense of others? That's what the rich man had done in relation to the poor beggar Lazarus.

Think of the things you will have gone through "in your lifetime." Clothing, shoes, food, drink, cars, and houses. Others just as quickly may have gone through inheritances, relationships, friendships, even multiple marriages. All of us receive good things "in our lifetime." But what have we done with those things? The man in our text was in torment because he had not shared a portion of his good things with the less fortunate. He saw Lazarus every day and would not even share the crumbs which fell from his table. He let him die in agony while he lived in luxury. May his blind selfishness be a life lesson for us!

Prayer: Merciful Father, may we this day rededicate ourselves to living for You and living for others. Thank You for give us the "good things" in life. Now prick our conscience to use those things for the good of others and to and for Your glory. Through Christ we pray.

How true - how true! Do we ever share all that we could? All we can do is "better" - today, tomorrow and the rest of our lifetime! Some of us, (that would be me) are even guilty of not sharing our prayers . That is the least(least amount of effort-most rewards) that one can do. Thanks for the reminder!

Question? Is it usual as a tradition for most Independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ to celebrate the full gambit of Lenten Services, such as, Maundy Thursday, etc.???? Please comment. Thanks!

I personally do not know of any Independent Christian Church or Church of Christ who celebrates the full gambit of Lent. That is not to say that some might but I doubt that enough would do so to constitute even 1% of the total number of congregations. -Victor Knowles
