"And we have sent with him the brother whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches, and not only that, but who was also chosen by the churches to travel with us with this gift..." (2 Corinthians 8:18,19a NKJV).

Here is a man whose name we shall never know until we get to heaven. Paul said he traveled with Titus (v. 16) but does not give his name. Many have speculated as to who he might be, but the Holy Spirit saw fit to let him remain anonymous. Not only was this unsung hero widely known and respected by all the churches, he was chosen by them for this special task.

If you have the applause of heaven you do not need the recognition of men. Great character is better than a great name. This man had it. And notice what he was known for – the gospel. He was praised by others for spreading the good news. Some people are known for their debating skills or divisive spirit or splitting churches but this man majored in the gospel. May God help us to be a person "whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches" that we visit or minister to in Jesus' name!

Prayer: Father, we are stirred by this unsung hero's example of service. May we emulate him today and be more concerned with pleasing You than pleasing men. Thank You for the wonderful privilege of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray, Amen.
