Mingling with the Gentiles

"But they mingled with the Gentiles and learned their works; they served their idols, which became a snare to them. They even sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons, and shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood" (Psalm 106:35-38 NKJV).
I didn't watch the Oscars last night. I never do. Somehow I just can't get caught up in all of Hollywood's self-congratulation - to say nothing of their constant condemnation of those who are trying to do right and their attitude of condescension to those who are trying to live lives of purity.
When you mingle with the Gentiles there is a price to pay. Our text says Israel "learned their works." Boy, did they learn their works. They picked up big time on idolatry, even to the point of sacrificing their own children to the idols of Canaan and the demons of Satan. Idolatry became their besetting sin. When you mingle with the Gentiles not much good can happen. Yes, Jesus ate with sinners. Pray tell, who else could He eat with? But he did so to save their souls, not to be entertained by their frivilous ways. Be very careful when you mingle with the Gentiles.
Song/Prayer: I want to live above the world, tho' Satan's darts at me are hurled; for faith has caught the joyful sound, the song of saints on higher ground. Lord, lift me up and let me stand, by faith, on heaven's table-land, a higher plane than I have found, Lord plant my feet on higher ground (Johnson Oatman).
