"And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch" (Acts 11:26 NAS.

The name "Christian" is the most noble name we can wear. Every day, first and foremost, we are Christians. A Christian is one who follows Christ. He or she is not led about by popular opinion, worldly ideals, or political correctness. Christ is their leader, master, and commander. Even if others blaspheme (as they do night and day on TV) that "worthy name" by which we are called (James 2:7). God assigned the name even if others malign the name.

"Christian" is the name which God Himself gave to the followers of His Son (Isaiah 62:2). Alexander the Great once rebuked a soldier, also named Alexander, for cowardice in battle. Those who claim the name "Christian" are to walk and talk as He walked and talked. Henry van Dyke said, "A Christian life is not an imitation but a reproduction of the life of Christ." Let us be happy to wear "no name but the divine."
Martin Luther pleaded, "I pray you, leave my name alone. Do not call yourselves 'Lutherans' but 'Christians.'" Charles Spurgeon thundered, "I say of the Baptist name, let it perish but let Christ's name last forever." "Christian" is a name all can wear – and should want to wear. Be a Christian and a Christian only.

Prayer: Father, we do believe that You, by divine assignment, have give us that Christ-exalting name "Christian." May we wear that worthy name with dignity and honor. May we be satisfied to be called what You have called us, nothing less, nothing more. Through Christ we pray.
